Plastic Injection Molding of an Encapsulated Assembly for the Automotive Industry

Encapsulated AssemblyThe mold that produced the product shown here was developed with features to enhance its (slide) action, and to minimize tool maintenance intervals during production. Designed for use as a fuel tank sensor for an automotive application, the finished part was 49.1mm x 27.1mm, and required tolerances of ±.05mm, concentricity of .15mm, as well as a perpendicularity of .1mm. Mold fabrication was completed using our OKK machining centers, a Mitsubishi wire EDM, and a Charmilles Roboform sinker EDM, as well as a surface/form grinding. To verify the integrity of the molded sample parts, we shipped to the customer for approval. The initial product was developed in 10 weeks.
